Acura fans will rejoice with an update about the TSX Sport Wagon – that’s right friends, Honda/Acura are bringing the wagon to America! The 2011 Acura TSX Sports Wagon is headed to the 2010 New York Auto Show, along with sister car Honda Accord Wagon. Acura reports this viewing will be followed by a trip to the dealerships in the “late fall.”

As for pricing, Jalopnik hypothesizes: “the Honda Accord Crosstour starts at $29,670, just higher than the Acura TSX starting price of $29,310. It’s big brother the ZDX starts at $45,495 so we’re hoping the TSX slots somewhere in between.”

Other details (outside of a pretty obvious V6 matted to a 4-cylinder) like styling, transmission and extra features will have wait until the show’s March 31st opening…or til someone leaks details online.

Acura’s new “Provocative Four-Door Sports Coupe” has gained a large following – all thanks to Facebook! Social networking IS the wave of the future as far as advertising goes. And there’s plenty of competition with everyone from your grandma to a pile of fungus having a facebook fan page. But Acura is hoping to steal away car lover’s attention with their news feed ads and promotions.

It’s not just Farmville updates and funny Lolcat posts – through their Facebook profile, the all new Acura ZDX gives away test drives, free subscriptions to online magazines/newspapers – and even auctions off car head rests autographed by popular artist. What I don’t understand is if you use a Crosby, Still & Nash signed head rest, won’t the oils in your hair eventually wipe it off? I’d switch them out before a long drive. ZDX’s page is already up to over 2100 fans – So, why not add the ZDX to your friends list?

Acura usually borrows many of their vehicle styling from Honda and their Japanese / European design studios. When Acura realized they were in desperate needs of a Coupe Concept, they strayed away from the Japanese auto maker, which probably left some hurt feelings. Instead, they went over and asked Mercedes E-Class scribes Lorinser to give them a two-door roadster, so far the result is this front-grill mash-up “Acura” E-Class.

Lorinser is best known for the tuning kits and body re-styling of Mercedes vehicles, such as the new E-Coupe and the M5. No news on how serious this supposed Acura Coupe really is, but it is time for the once great Integra makers to have a fast two-door again.

With rumors that Honda will bring back the NSX in the form of HSV next year, MORE rumors pop up that Acura’s NSX will be resurrected. That’s right sports fans – Acura’s NSX supercar may rise from the dead. Why? Well Acura needs to run something in the Super GT racing series. This race requires production vehicles to be entered – so Acura will have to work on bringing back the NSX. Honda/Acura’s resurrected sportster will be the perfect ride for such an event.

According to sources at Inside Line & World Car Fans: While details are limited, the race car is expected to be virtually identical to the production NSX that was killed off late last year. However, the NSX racer will reportedly use a 3.4-liter V8 instead of a 5.0-liter V10 which was expected in the production model.

A car so cool it was featured in Need for Speed on Playstation and Harvey Keitel drove it as The Wolf in Pulp Fiction. It was a collector’s piece and screamed 90’s engineering. The Acura NSX was one of the more intriguing concepts to ever come from this motor company.

Originally cast under the Honda name, NSX was conceptualized in the late 1980’s and came to life as an Acura in 1990. NSX sports a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and was powered by an all-aluminum V6. It was one of the more popular carriers of VTEC: “variable valve timing and lift electronic control.”

One of the first magazine articles showed the lightweight 3.0L 270 bhp NSX producing a best 0-60 mph time of 5.03 seconds and 13.47 seconds for the quarter mile. Also on a Ferrari 348 to NSX comparison, a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds was recorded for the 1991 NSX. Not bad, and with a redline of 8000 rpm you’d expect no less. NSX grew in popularity so fast that Wheels magazine in Australia awarded the Honda NSX the 1991 Car of the Year award, and the Acura-badged car was Automobile Magazine’s Automobile of the Year that same year.

NSX gathered a wide range of fans and buyers globally, but as engines advanced to be more “green” NSX began to grow elderly. By 2005, NSX unit sales amounted to a few hundred vehicles per year worldwide. Honda deemed continuation of the NSX was not economically viable, considering the very high cost of manufacturing the NSX along with the company’s growing interest in producing a new model with a V10 engine and performance on par with the most modern high performance sports cars. Thus the final year of Acura NSX came and went, but it still flourishes at car shows and on race courses world wide.

Cut backs in Research & Design meant less new models and no huge break throughs in design for many companies, especially in the USA. With nothing to show off or not extra cash to ship vehicles / promotions people halfway around the world, Acura’s booth, along with several others, are left empty.

Many of the cars that did show up include homemade brands – Toyota, Nissan Nd Honda all displaying new hybrids, zero-emissions and electric vehicles during the event. Maybe next year Acura will have a line-up of hybrid vehicles to pimp out.

[nggallery id=1]

The vehicle uses a 3.7-liter V6 VTEC engine pumping out 300-horsepower and up to 270 ft-lbs of torque, and the “Super Handling All-Wheel Drive,” aka SH-AWD, as Acura calls it. Passengers will sit under the large panoramic glass roof, supposedly the largest in class. A 10-speaker surround sound system with 15gb hard drive keeps the tunes audible for everyone.
Wagons have been in the news quite a bit lately—Cadillac is soon to launch a CTS wagon, Mercedes-Benz just unwrapped the eccentric E-class wagon. We’ve now heard that Acura may be on the verge of bringing out a wagon version of the TSX.

“We’re closely, closely looking at it,” said John Watts, senior manager of Acura product planning. Watts believes that the younger part of the target market for the TSX—specifically the Gen Y portion—might be open to such a variant. “Boomers, and [the older among] Gen X, who had wagons as kids don’t want one, but the new kids do,” he said. Count us in that group, too, Johnny.

It wouldn’t be hard to develop, either. A wagon version of the TSX already is sold abroad as the Honda Accord Touring. All Acura would have to do is rebadge the thing and get it approved by the feds . . . the automotive equivalent of flickin’ a (somewhat costly) switch. And with everyone looking for handy, stylish, and thrifty alternatives to gas-guzzling SUVs, we think the time is right for said switch to be flicked.

Was it worth all that time? MDX sports the car company’s new staple front grill, and (as reported by Jalopnik) At 7.0-seconds to 60 MPH, the new MDX is faster than V6-equipped rivals like the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 3.2, Lexus RX350, Infiniti FX35 and BMW X5 3.0. At 16 MPG city/21 MPG highway, it’s also more fuel efficient than all but the Lexus. Too bad the rear seating is so small. Check out the full gallery and let us know what you think!
