Acura Car Commercials Then & Now

Acura Car Commercials Then & Now

The world of advertising is always changing, and in the competitive climate of automotive sales ad execs need to remain creative and inspired. We noticed Acura has through the 90′s and today try to cover all bases when it comes to producing a quality video spot. Some of the ads we discovered were authentic commercials – while some parody the very styling Acura advertising uses to sell cars. Have a look for yourselves.

Here is a classic example of a luxury car ad. This spot for the 1995 Acura Legend shows us just how “elegant” driving a leather-seat fill vehicle can be. I mean, who doesn’t want to go to the Opera and drink $1000 bottles of win while speeding off in an Acura?

Ripe for parody, this homemade commercial for the 2008 1987 Acura Legend may poke fun at luxury car ads, but it’s also a testament to how long a well maintained Acura can last.

Celebrities love selling cars in Japan for some reason, they must be offered a crap-ton of cash. This 1992 Acura Legend (branded as a Honda overseas) stars Harrison Ford of all people!

Here are the basics of automotive advertising for television: 1) Slow motion shots of the car driving fast around corners. 2) State performance stats either in text or through voice over. 3) Fast music to show off the extreme nature of driving this car. 4) Cut out from the slow-mo turns to real time shots of the car speeding past the camera. This Acura NSX ad from 2007 hits the mark.

And please don’t forget to mention how faster/stronger/cooler/more efficient your car is than other luxury brands, as this 2008 Acura MDX spot does.
